Alicia Silverstone Reunites With Amy Heckerling For “Vamps”

(February 11, 2010) After the worldwide success of the comedy “Clueless,” Alicia Silverstone is set to reunite with writer/director Amy Heckerling to star in the new feature film VAMPS. Written and to be directed by Heckerling, VAMPS tells the modern day tale of two young beautiful female vampires living the good nightlife in New York until love enters the picture and each has to make a choice that will jeopardize their immortality.

Silverstone, who plays one of the female vampires, most recently appeared in MGM’s action adventure “Stormbreaker” opposite Ewan McGregor and Mickey Rourke. Other credits include “Scooby Doo,” “Beauty Shop,” “Blast from the Past,” “Batman and Robin” and the award winning TV series “Miss Match,” for which she was nominated for a Golden Globe. She is currently starring on Broadway opposite Laura Linney in the critically acclaimed Donald Margulies play Time Stands Still.

Silverstone joins Krysten Ritter already on board as the other lead vampire. VAMPS marks Ritter’s first starring role in a feature, and comes on the heels of her casting as the series lead of the Starz Network dark-comedy “Gravity,” currently in production in New York. Ritter was most recently seen in “Confessions of a Shopaholic,” AMC’s award-winning series “Breaking Bad” and “27 Dresses.” Up next, she stars in the Dreamworks’ comedy “She’s Out of My League” and is currently wrapping production on the U2 biopic “Killing Bono” playing the lead opposite Ben Barnes.

Set to start production in April 2010, VAMPS is produced by Red Hour Films (“Tropic Thunder,” “Blades of Glory,” “Dodgeball”), Lucky Monkey Pictures partners Lauren Versel and Maria Teresa Arida (2009 Tribeca Audience Award winner “City Island” set for release through Overture in March 2010) and Molly Hassell (Sundance Award Winning “Big River Man”).

Heckerling shot to fame directing “Fast Times at Ridgemont High” for Universal followed by the box office hits “Look Who’s Talking,” “Look Who’s Talking Too” and “Clueless.”
