Taraji P. Henson Inks Deal to Publish Her Memoir
(New York, NY) – April 08, 2015. 37 INK/Atria Publishing Group today announced they will publish an as-yet-untitled memoir by Academy Award nominated actress Taraji P. Henson, whose perfectly-pitched performance as Cookie Lyon has made her one of the breakout stars in Fox’s runaway hit Empire. She will make her hosting debut on Saturday Night Live on April 11. A mid-2016 pub date is anticipated.
Dawn Davis, Vice President and Publisher, acquired worldwide publishing rights for 37 INK in a deal represented by Vincent Cirrincionne of Vincent Cirrincionne Associates with literary agent Todd Shuster of Zachary Shuster Harmsworth Literary Agency.
The book will be about Henson’s life growing up in a rough-and-tumble neighborhood of Washington, DC, her close relationship with her family, especially, including the hugely influential contributions of her parents, the challenges she has faced raising a son as a single mom, and her ascent from aspiring Hollywood actress to global film and television star.
“I know Taraji Henson will bring the same magnetism and dynamism to the page that she brings to the screen,” says Davis. “Beyond the glamor, beyond the larger-than-life persona, Taraji Henson exudes an every-woman quality that her audience, which grew with each episode of Empire, can relate to.”
Henson earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress opposite Brad Pitt in David Fincher’s The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. She is also a 2011 Emmy nominee for Best Actress in a Movie or Miniseries for Lifetime’s Taken From Me. She starred as Detective Joss Carter in the highly rated J.J. Abrams crime drama Person of Interest for CBS and won the 2015 NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Actress in a feature film for No Good Deed, which she also executive produced. She was also presented with NAACP 2015 Entertainer of the Year Award from Oprah Winfrey. Her other film credits include Baby Boy, The Karate Kid, Think Like a Man and more. Henson made her singing debut in Hustle & Flow and performed at the Academy Awards.
Born and raised in Washington, D.C., the Howard University graduate resides in Los Angeles with her son. Henson has a strong dedication to helping disabled and less fortunate children and reveals, “I always stress to kids to have faith in themselves—the greatest recipe for success is self-confidence.”
